Social History
George W. Wright sold Fernlea Villa to Sidney Cooke Limited who were a printing and manufacturing company based in Queen Street Melbourne, from 1872 to 1999. Edward Ballantyne lived in the house until 1927. Council rate book records indicate Fernlea Villa was demolished sometime around 1927 by its then owner Sidney Cooke Limited and a red brick factory was built sometime around 1928.
Sidney Cooke Limited were listed as occupants of the factory on council rate books from 1928 to 1934.
In 1935 Sidney Cooke Limited sold the factory to Garrard Wire Tying Machines Co Pty Ltd.
