A single fronted double story paint and rendered brick building with balcony, bluestone foundations and corrugated iron roof with a front and a back yard. The original roof could have been slate.

It is thought the house know as 44 Abbotsford Street replaced an earlier timber house known as 40 Abbotsford Street that was originally built by James F Wood in 1859. See house 40 for further details of the original build.
