Social History

William and Mary Watson background

William Watson was born in County Limerick Ireland in 1796. He was the son of Thomas Watson and mother’s name unknown.

He arrived in Australia sometime before 1852, we know this because he married Mary Nauton [Naughton] in Victoria in 1852 and a year later William lodged a notice of intention to build on land in Latrobe Street, West Melbourne on the 16th of June 1853.

His wife Mary was born in 1821 in Tipperary Ireland, the daughter of John and Ann Norton.
