Over, Joseph (1829-1913)

Mr Joseph Over was a native of Brighton England. It was at the age of only 23 years that he and his brother Charles Over left England in search of future fortunes on the Victorian gold fields.

The brothers arrived onboard the vessel ‘New Orleans’ to Melbourne in 1852 from England.

It was sometime between 1852 and 1873 that Joseph met Agnes Petrie and they had 3 children together, being Joseph jnr, Agnes and Jane.

Records in the Melbourne Council rate books from 1872 until 1882 show Joseph Over living at 24 Abbotsford Street West Melbourne then they lived at 63 Ireland Street West Melbourne, and later prior to his death he lived in Woodland Street North Fitzroy.
