Prior to moving into the Abbotsford home, the Hamilton family lived at number 33 Curzon Street Hotham. House number 33 was under the old house numbering system which was changed by Melbourne Council sometime around 1889.

Mr. Daniel Hamilton a native of Lanarkshire Scotland and his wife Agnes Cochrane of Ayrehire Scotland arrived at Port Phillip in 1856.

Mr. Hamilton commissioned Walter Webster to build cottages (64 & 68) in Abbotstford Street West Melbourne in 1862.

The Hamilton’s were the first family to occupy their home in Abbotsford Street West Melbourne in 1862.

The Hamilton’s lived at 64 Abbotsford street until around 1885 when they moved to Camberwell, but still maintained ownership of 64 & 68 Abbotsford street homes until Daniel Hamilton’s death in 1918/9 and ownership of 64 Abbotsford street passed to his daughter Mary Mead while ownership of 68 Abbotsford street passed to his daughter Margaret Harratt in 1920 and remaining in Hamilton family hands for around 62 years. (1862-1924)
